Initial Assessment

Let’s take a closer look and make a plan!

If you are concerned about your child’s communication development, you may want to start the process by speaking with your pediatrician to let them know about your concerns. At this time, you can request a prescription for speech therapy which will allow you to book a speech evaluation quickly. This will save you time and allow you to begin the evaluation process with your SLP.

The evaluation process typically takes about an hour or two (depending on the child) and may include a combination of standardized formal assessment, informal observation, parent questions and of course play to make it a fun and engaging experience for your child.

Having your child undergo an assessment by a speech pathologist does not automatically mean that your child has a speech disorder; the SLP will determine this through the information gathered at the initial evaluation.

At the end of the evaluation a follow-up meeting will be planned to discuss the results of the assessment and will include discussion of an action plan. It is my mission to help support and guide you through this process and work collaboratively to develop a personalized treatment plan for your child.

For your convenience, evaluations can be completed in your home, daycare, or school.
